NATURAL SKIN DETOX

Everyone’s talking about detoxing, cleaning our systems out, purification, and body cleansing. I see and hear a lot of commercials for full body cleanses (pills, normally).  But what a lot of people are not talking about is that our bodies are made to clean themselves naturally. And it is important to know that what you are putting into your body is as important in how your body cleans itself out. As the skin is the largest organ of the body, it is important to note what we are putting into our bodies. So with all things considered, let’s talk about some of the things we can put into our bodies to help give our bodies a natural skin detox.

Natural Skin Detox

Natural Skin Detox Option 1: Fiber – If you’re not eating enough fiber, you may want to start IMMEDIATELY. Increasing the fiber content in your diet not only helps combat bloating, but it has a tremendous benefit for your skin. Instead of taking fiber supplements that can leave you bloated, eat foods like classic oatmeal or muesli for breakfast, whole grain or gluten-free bread, and nuts to meet your 38 grams per day fiber quota, according to the Institute of Medicine. Consuming high-fiber foods like vegetables, beans, and fruits can help flush the body of toxins that can lead to clogged pores and inflammation. Additionally, constipation has been linked to acne and other skin conditions. A high fiber diet will keep things moving smoothly.

Natural Skin Detox Option 2: Water – Drinking enough water daily is important for your overall health because it aids in circulation, digestion, absorption, and excretion, and while it does give you a healthy, younger looking and radiant complexion, it’s not a miracle cure for you skin — but it helps. Your skin contains plenty of water and functions as a protective barrier to prevent excess fluid loss. That said, the water you drink is likely to reach your other organs before your skin, which means you should also apply the proper moisturizer to create a physical barrier that locks moisture in. Aim to drink half your body weight in ounces of water a day to hydrate your body and rid your skin and body of toxins. Dehydration aids your skin in looking more dry and wrinkled, which can be improved with proper hydration. Pure water is key, but if you need assistance in drinking the water necessary each day, you can try to add products that will give it a little flavor. One of my go to products is a product called Eco Drink, which is very tasty, and I add to my bottled water and it really helps me to get my required ounces of water in each day!

Natural Skin Detox Option 3: Probiotics – If you’re unsure of what they are, they’re live bacteria and yeasts that are naturally found in your digestive system that are really good for you. You can also get them in supplements and the foods you eat. Adding a good probiotic to your diet helps purify your skin from the inside out. Incorporate probiotic yogurt (but regular yogurt containing active cultures works too), sauerkraut, miso soup, and soft cheeses to name a few. My favorite is Activia Yogurt. Peach is my go-to flavor. Or you can take a daily probiotic with water, and your added Eco Drink, which will be a two-for-one in the mission for your natural skin detox.

I hope these are useful tips for you on the road to natural skin detox and replenishment of your natural beauty daily. Recognize that what happens internally will reflect on us externally.
